terms and conditions
This section is here because it has to be, legally. But don't let that stop you reading it – it's important that you understand the ethics behind my practice. Confidentiality is extremely important to you and you can rest assured that everything we discuss will be between us, and nobody else. Also, read the section outlining my Code of Practice as it will tell you how the practice operates and what records we keep. In addition to my own personal Code of Practice, I adhere to those of The Hypnotherapy Association (view) The General Hypnotherapy Register (view) and The National Council for Hypnotherapy (view). Please look at the links if you are interested to find out more.
confidentiality
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the Client/Therapist relationship and as a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, I am obliged to comply with this body’s directive on the subject, as laid out in Clause 2 of the NCH Code of Ethics:
Confidentiality is to be maintained in all but the most exceptional circumstances. These can only include:
- legal action (criminal or civil court cases where a court order is made demanding disclosure - includes coroner's courts),
- legal requirement, eg Children's acts,
- where there is good cause to believe that not to disclose would cause danger of serious harm to the Client, the Therapist and/or others.
data protection act
I naturally adhere to the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Data Protection Act 1998
code of practice
supervision
Supervision is not only considered a good practise for therapists, but in certain circumstances regulatory bodies make it a requirement for their members. It is a process whereby the therapist himself is able to discuss not only his own issues, but also his clients and the treatment he is doing with them. It not only serves as a safety valve for the therapist but also ensures that he remains on-track in his work. Throughout the process confidentiality is maintained, and to this end, names and other identifying information are either altered or withheld. Also, supervisors are equally bound by Codes of Ethics and their Confidentiality guidelines.
duration of sessions
Appointments usually last for 50 minutes, with additional time for administration. For example, this may include setting up our next session together or burning a CD of a hypnotic induction that we might have just completed so that you may take it away to listen to at home.
medical and psychological conditions.
For your own safety and for the effectiveness of the treatment, it is essential that you disclose any medical or psychological conditions that you may have. You are also required to bring in any medication that you might be taking. You will be given a full questionnaire on your first visit and it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that the details you supply are correct.
recordings
Any recording that made during a session are for your personal use only and are copyright Christopher Norris Hypnotherapy. They should NOT be listened to while driving a car or working with machinery.
acceptance of clients
Please note that occasionally I do not accept a person as a client. This is sometimes because that person wants to see me for the wrong reasons. Other times it is because I feel I am not able to deal either ethically or effectively with the person concerned or the issue presented
guarantees
Although many of the therapeutic tools and techniques I use are powerful and highly effective, I am obviously not able to guarantee their success. You will remain in control throughout the process and in fact you will also need to do most of the therapeutic work yourself. My role is mainly that of a facilitator and guide.
phoning between sessions
Please note that I am not able to counsel over the telephone. If anything important crops up between appointments and you feel you can’t wait for our arranged one, please rather try to bring your appointment forward. You can contact me through this website.
deposit
If we are planning future appointments, I will require a fully refundable deposit of £85 (or £120 in the case of couples). This is to protect myself from clients who do not show up for sessions booked, which deprives others from making use of the session time booked.
punctuality
Please arrive not more than a minute or two before your appointed time as I may be with a previous client. Please also be punctual. Your session will end at the allotted time even if you have arrived late.
abuse
I will not tolerate abusive behaviour from clients.
cancelation fees
In the event that you cannot attend an appointment we will attempt to reschedule PROVIDED THAT notice is received not less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled time. If notice is received in less than 48 hours or if you fail to attend an appointment not that the FULL SESSION FEE will be charged.
If you wish to cancel, contact me using the details provided in the contact section of this site.
