medical disorders

Many medical conditions are either triggered or exacerbated by psychological factors, particularly by psychological stress. In such cases, Clinical Hypnotherapy and NLP generally have a well proven track record in that they are safe and inexpensive procedures that can empower sufferers with the ability to relieve or overcome issues themselves.

When it comes to treating both psychological and medical conditions, there is a considerable body of evidence attesting to the power of expectation. If a client’s expectations, attitude or belief system plays a role in his or her condition, or if the person’s feelings, personal needs and/or mental health are a factor, hypnosis and NLP are likely to have worthwhile applications.

Traditional medicine has, for a long time, recognised the placebo effect. Even if hypnosis is merely a placebo, all-be-it a non-deceptive one, it would still be a most worthwhile adjunct to more traditional medicine. Most of us have an intuitive understanding of the way our mind affects our body and the way our physiology, in its turn, affects our mental experience. Hypnosis, more than other intervention, utilises this mind-body relationship in its approach to medical disorders.

Even if the issue is one that is entirely physical in nature - a physical injury for example, hypnosis and NLP can be used to focus the client’s mental resources to help manage his or her discomfort more easily and to enhance the recovery or healing process.

By their very nature, hypnotherapy and NLP provide a client with the opportunity to gain some control over his or her internal experiences. This is true whether the person is faced with either pain or with distress or with both. Treatment can minimise feelings of being a victim and even feelings of depression. Without being judgemental, it can focus attention on the responsibility of the individual for his or her own health and wellbeing and facilitate changing states of pain and despair into ones of relief, comfort and positivity.

Medical literature documents numerous so called “miracle cures” that have come out of a patient’s refusal to give up. Pragmatically, it therefore makes sense to also encourage, or to at least to permit, such possible healings in clinical treatment plans.

Conditions that may benefit from Clinical Hypnosis and NLP treatments are numerous and include the following:

Please contact me if you feel your condition may be helped by Hypnosis or NLP, even if it’s not listed here. I’ll be most pleased to assess you and give you candid feedback as to what I believe is and isn't possible.

warning

Given the clinical nature of the issues referred to on this page, it is necessary that you also consult your GP or specialist. Clearly, it is important that an accurate diagnosis is made, or at least confirmed, by an appropriate medical practitioner, and that any Hypnotherapy or NLP treatments are carried out with an understanding of the condition and in conjunction with whatever medical advice is given. I will contact your doctor if I feel there is a need for me to do so.
